About Community Action in Self Help, Inc……..

Community Action in Self Help, Inc. is located in Lyons, NY and services Wayne County and the towns of Manchester and Phelps in Ontario County. The Agency’s history dates to February, 1970 when it was officially incorporated as an agency to assist low-income families in organizing self-help housing projects in Wayne County.  The agency secured 501(c)3 status the same year.  Over the past 40 plus years it has administered programs through the Farmers Home Administration and the Small Cities’ Block Grant program, and has built a number of subsidized apartment complexes throughout Wayne County.  Detailed descriptions of the Agency’s current programs can be found under the “Services” tab.

In recognizing the interconnection of these services to both the success of individuals and the community at large, Community Action in Self Help, Inc. is also active on a number of community wide forums, ranging from homelessness intervention to revitalization of downtown areas.  Through sharing our expertise and cooperating on community wide efforts, the Agency intends to be an integral piece to the continued economic development and viability of our community.

Our Mission

Community Action in Self Help, Inc. is dedicated to the goal that everyone is entitled to decent, safe sanitary and affordable housing, regardless of race, color creed or personal circumstances.

There are no fee’s for foreclosure and advocacy services.

We work to accomplish our goal by:

Rehabilitating or building new low cost apartment units for eligible residents.

Assisting low-income families in obtaining homeownership

Administering Section 8, a government rent subsidy program

Providing counseling for persons with housing issues

Providing consultation and education to landlords, agencies and local government bodies

Disseminating information on local housing issues and specific rights, responsibilities and governmental regulations that landlords may have to comply with in the development of housing units.
